Mama & her cub

While guiding a tour in the Yukon Territory today we were fortunate to come across a Mama bear and her cub foraging near the side of the road.  What a fun sight it was -  and I'm always so happy when the tour I'm guiding gets to see wildlife like this during the tour.   I LOVE MY JOB!

Emerald Lake, Yukon Territory

The photo is my original photo but the words are  quoted from Wikipedia --
Emerald Lake is a lake in the southern Yukon, notable for its intense green color. It is located on the South Klondike Highway at kilometer 117.5 (mile 73.5), measured from Skagway, Alaska. The color derives from light reflecting off white deposits of marl, a mixture of clay and calcium carbonate,[1] at the bottom of the shallow waters.[2][3]
The high concentration of calcium carbonate in the water here comes from limestone gravels eroded from the nearby mountains and deposited here 14,000 years ago by the glaciers of the last ice age. Glacial erosion was likewise responsible for scooping out the shallow lakebed.

Goldrush Cemetery & Reid Waterfall

I took a little walk after work today and went out to the Goldrush Cemetery on the edge town, and then took the short hike up to Reid Waterfall.  It was a beautiful little hike, and the waterfall did not disappoint.  I took one photo in the Cemetery, as there was a tour going on and I didn't want to interrupt what they were doing.  I"ll get more photos of some of the grave sites another time, but these are what I have for today.

What a Motley Crew!

Gave my first City/Summit tour today, and this is the good group of folks I had the privilege of bringing along for the ride!  We saw some great sights, and were even treated to a bear sighting on the way down the mountain.  It's a great way to spend a summer!

A picture is worth 1,000 words

These are just a few of my photos taken while driving between Seattle & Skagway -  it took me 3 days to travel the 1,608 miles from Seattle -  but I started my journey in Boise, ID for a total trip of 2,067 miles!  I was the lone driver, and it was an amazing experience!  Skagway is beautiful, and the trip from the southern border of British Columbia to the Northern Border of BC and then skirting along the border between the Yukon and BC and eventually down into Alaska did not disappoint!

On The Road Again!

Well it's finally  here!  I leave Eagle for Skagway (via Seattle) tomorrow morning 6/10 -  that is after I drop my dear husband Larry off at the airport so he can fly to China for 10 days!  He has a 12 hour flight -  I have a 42 hour drive with stops on the way.  All together I'll drive 2112 miles (3398 km)

I won't have great internet coverage while traveling through Canada, but I will post things as I can.  My trip covers all of British Columbia (south to north) and skirts along the Yukon border before dropping down into the good ole USA again and finishing in Skagway.  I am sleeping in my van (I have a pretty sweet set up)  stopping at rest areas and Walmart stores along the way.  I'm nervous,  yet excited.

Wish me luck -  and keep me in your prayers!

Adventure Awaits ~
